Good News/Bad News *SPOILERS* |
First the good news...
Over at Newsarama, the sales for December were shown.
Manhunter has finally broke the top 100!! it ranked 96 for the month with 30.88% of the sales (the estamated sales will be published later).
It also seems that Manhunter will still be appearing in Birds of Prey after the current arc is over, so I added issue 104 (March's solicit) as well as April's issue to the solicitations.
Now... for the bad news.
It appears that a website accidently put out the DC solicits for April a bit too early and someone posted some of them. Manhunter's solicit states:
MANHUNTER #30
Written by Mark Andreyko
Art by Javier Pina & Robin Riggs
Cover by Jesus Saiz & Pina
The shocking series finale! When you’re the best superhero lawyer on earth, where do you find your next challenge? Look to the stars…
On sale April 4 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • Final Issue
While this is sad news, it isn't that unexpected (to me and a few others). DC didn't really do much promoting of the book "re-launch". so, I ask that everyone write in to DC again. Like last time, be polite to them, they did give the series 5 more issues. I would ask that you thank them for those additional issues and ask if they can extend it again. You can find the address to DC here.
~added~
Marc stated this over at Comicbloc:
well, gang--
looks like this is it, huh? writing letters can't hurt, but, i don't know if anything other than sales could help at this point. maybe if the remaining issues sell-out or the tpb sales catch fire...
...all i can say is i am very sad. i would love to write kate and co's adventures for many years, but the market is a cruel one. perhaps, someday, my plans will see the light of day, perhaps not.
thank all of you for your support, devotion and positivity. who knows? maybe Kate can defy cancellation a second time?
anybody know any publishers who need a writer?

Manhunter ties into new Mini-Series |
Over at Newsarama, in a Will Pfeifer interview about Amazons Attack, he had this to say.
Quoted from interview:
NRAMA: Fair enough. On another front - you can't talk about the Amazons in general without talking about the most familiar one, specifically - what role does Wonder Woman play in this? Is it connected to, say, her appearance in Manhunter? Her ongoing series?
WP: Wonder Woman, as you guessed, plays a central role in Amazons Attack. It’s connected to both her appearances in Manhunter and what’s going on in her regular series – specifically, the issues Jodi Picoult is writing. I’ve read several of Jodi’s scripts to make sure everything dovetails nicely between Amazons Attack and Wonder Woman and I have to say Wonder Woman readers are in for a real treat – it’s a helluva fun read.
So, make sure you inform your Comic Shop (and all Wonder Woman fans) that this arc will be a lead-in to the Amazons Attack mini coming out in April. |

Manhunter on a team book?? |
Over at Newsarama, in a Dan Didio interview about 2007, he had this to say.
Quoted from interview:
DD: Oh, and fans of both Firestorm and Manhunter will like next summer.
NRAMA: Are they going to play major roles in events, or...?
DD: Both of them find that there's strength in numbers, shall we say?
NRAMA: Might they be joining teams?
DD: They just might be.
I wonder if this means that Kate will be joining Birds of Prey after the arc is over. |

I am a bit late with this information, but a poster over at ComicBloc posted this:

Manhunter out Tomorrow!!! |
|
Manhunter #26 will be out tomorrow. Over at Comic Bloc.com Geoff Johns had this to say:
So Marc and I spoke last night and I realized both series were returning tomorrow!
Do yourself (okay, me and Marc) a favor and pick them both up. If you haven't tried Manhunter, try it. If you haven't tried Justice Society of America, try it. We'd both appreciate the look. And if you like them, pass them on to a friend.
Justice Society and Manhunter are underdogs in a lot of people's eyes but we're aiming to put these books on the top of everyone's favorite list.
Thanks for reading,
Geoff
Wizard has put out a new Article (see link in the update section). In it, it gives six reason why Manhunter rocks!
The other day I realized something.... Manhunter Comics.com has been around for a year now. Boy, time sure flies when having fun. To celebrate this occasion, I will be holding a contest or a raffle within the next few weeks to give away some nice prizes. More information to come. |

Manhunter out in 7 days!!! |
|
Manhunter #26 will be out on December 6th. Marc has said if we want to send a message to DC, we need to make this issue sell out. Buy an issue for yourself, buy an issue for a friend, buy an issue for someone else in your comic store and just stick it into their pull box.
Also don't forget that Kate is apart of the current Birds of Prey arc, that started with issue #100 that came out last month.
CBR (Comic Book Resources) has a new article up on Manhunter (see link in the update section). It's a nice little article that also has the 5 preview pages for issue #26. Expect more articles to come from CBR to help SAVE MANHUNTER!! |
Marc posted this message over at Comicbloc:

Marc speaks about San Diego Comic-con |
Marc posted this message over at Comicbloc:
Hey, gang-
I will be at the con Weds-Sun (geez, that's a long time....) and I will PROBABLY, if all goes well, have a VERY SPECIAL MANHUNTER GIFT for those of you devoted fans! It will be extremely limited and the first people to get it will be those who bring their response letters from DC for the "Save Manhunter" campaign! (or some other irrefutable proof that you wrote in).
after that, we'll see what i have left....
and, if it turns out, it's gonna be COOL!!!
marc
Later in the same thread he states:
I just saw the prototype for the Con Exclusive and it is awesome! (and don't worry, there are some MH fans who'll get mailed their gift, too. those who've gone above and beyond.... but this is an extremely limited edition, like of 100-115)
marc
So make sure you stop by the DC booth while your there and say hi to Marc!! |

Manhunter Lives!!!!!!!!!!!!! *edited 6/17/06* |
We Manhunter fans did it!! We got Manhunter a "stay of execution" for five issues. Dan Didio stated that this arc will be important to the DCU, "'It's going to deal with one of the ramifications of Infinite Crisis' was all that Didio offered". - Quote from the article at Newsarama.
DC listened to each and every fan of the series to give us one more arc. Now it will be up to us to keep this book alive. Pre-order more books from your local comic shop!! Try to get as many people as you can to pick this book up.
I have four new Mini-Posters for us all to hang up at our Comic Shops, look in the Banner section of From the Fans.
Also, e-mail Wizard Magazine to try and get them to write an article about the five issues that DC is giving Manhunter. If they have an article about the news that broke at thier convention, it might drum up some more people to pick it up. |

Manhunter is Canceled *updated 5/15/06* |
According to Comics Continuum and Newsarama, Manhunter will be canceled at issue #25.
Both at Comicbloc.com and Newsarama, fans are in a uproar over this announcement. In one of the thread at Comicbloc.com on May 13th, Marc had this to say:
"I can neither confirm nor deny anything, folks, but, if you wanna help save the book: WRITE DC AND DEMAND THEY CONTINUE IT (but in a nice way, of course
!)
GET YOUR RETAILER TO CARRY IT!
TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW HOW MUCH YOU LOVE IT!
TELL 'EM ABOUT THE "BUY BACK" GUARANTEE!
and pray a little, too.
i have dozens of stories planned for kate, but the power to let me tell them lies in your hands. DC can't be expected to publish a money-losing book, so unless the sales go up (and stay there), well,.......
marc"
On Marc's myspace profile he added this;
"Save Manhunter!!!! Write letters to: Paul Levitz and Dan DiDio c/o DC COMICS 1700 Broadway NYC, NY 10019 Snail-mail letters make the biggest impact (and please, be passionate, but friendly and civil! these guys did, after all, give us 25 issues!) Write soon!"
There are two addresses that you can write to:
Att: DAN DIDIO
DC Comics
1700 Broadway
New York, NY 10019-5905
Att: Paul Levitz
DC Comics
1700 Broadway
New York, NY 10019-5905
We Manhunter fans must not let this happen!! So, if you want this book to continue, show your support with emails, snail mail, if you can, Pre-order and buy more than one book. If the fans of Spider-girl could save that book twice with this kind of campain, so can we!!!!
*Added* On Thursday May 18th, at 6pm PST / 9pm EST, there will be a Manhunter Chat at Comicbloc.com. We will be discussion the lastest issue (#22 - out Wednesday) and ways we can bring this book back. I implore all Manhunter fans to show up. |

Comic Writers thoughts on Manhunter |
|
Whedon, Hester, Simone, Brubaker, Casey and Rucka's thoughts...
On the Manhunter series (as quoted from article at CBR):
"Manhunter is taut, fresh, funny and grim. It gets under the skin of the superhero game in a unique way. I haven't missed an ish."
-- Joss Whedon ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Firefly," "Astonishing X-men")
"Manhunter is the most addictive book in the DCU. The perfect bridge between crime and super hero genres. Stop punishing yourself and start buying it."
-- Phil Hester ("Green Arrow," "The Coffin")
"Manhunter is one of those books that you'll probably hate, assuming you hate brilliant characterization, snappy and quirky dialogue, and kick-butt superhero action. It has the kind of charge and verve and smarts shared by books like 'Ultimates' and 'Planetary,' and the art is always outstanding. Just read the damn thing. You'll thank me for suggesting it."
-- Gail Simone ("Villains United," "Birds of Prey")
"Andreyko is creating stories that demand your attention, and reward it with twists and action and great characters. One of the finest super-hero books on the market."
-- Ed Brubaker ("Sleeper," "X-Men: Deadly Genesis," "Daredevil")
"Andreyko is writing the kind of book I've always wanted to see in the DC Universe... street-level, highly-emotional, and action-packed. And he's writing the hell out of it!"
-- Joe Casey ("Godland," "Fantastic 4: First Family," "Iron Man")
"There is no reason in the world that you should not be buying, reading, cherishing, and celebrating this book! 'Manhunter' is the best of what modern super-hero comics should be - virtuoso story-telling, fantastic art, a bad-ass hot chick in the lead, and a hefty dose of just plain smarts thrown into the action"
-- Greg Rucka ("OMAC," "Gotham Central," "Queen and Country," "Checkmate")

The Manhunter 20K Challenge |
|
Manhunter Comics, in an effort to ensure the continuing publication of Manhunter, proudly presents:
The Manhunter 20K Challenge
Dan Didio recently said that Manhunter is in no danger of cancellation, but the truth is that guarantee will run out eventually. Look at H-E-R-O and Doom Patrol. Both at one point had guarantees and both have since been cancelled. So, we Manhunter fans can't rest on our laurels because of the Didio comment. It will not last forever and sales on the title still need to rise. In an effort to get this book up to sustainable levels, I'm posing a challenge to the Manhunter fanbase. Generally, twenty thousand copies is the cutoff point for DC titles. The October sales of Manhunter #15 were 14,345. That is over 5000 copies before we can really consider Manhunter safe. The challenge I am posing is for Manhunter fans to do whatever they can to get sales on Manhunter up to 20,000 with #25. That gives us 7 months to meet the goal. Icv2.com's Top 300 will be the gauge we go by. So get out there and talk this book up. Make sure your retailer is ordering copies for the shelf. Write reviews and recommend this book any time you see someone looking to pick up a new book. I think we can do it. How about you?
- Check here for more information. |
