History:
Not much is known of Kate's childhood other than when Kate was young she would witness her father abuse her mother in a drunken rage. Her father was arrested for apparently for murdering Kate's mother in front of her, when she was no more than 7 years old.
In her College years, she met and became friends with Cameron Chase and Damon Matthews. Sometime later she met Peter Robinson and they married. Kate had a son, Ramsey, with Peter and at some point within the past couple of years, they divorced. Kate became a Federal Prosecutor based in Los Angeles, California, where she is known to be fierce in the courtroom.
During one of her recent trials, Kate was trying to get Copperhead sentence to death. However Defense Attorney Leslie Carter was able to convince the jury that Copperhead should not be sentenced to death, reasoning that his "meta-gene" was in more control than he was. After the jury gave Copperhead an "acquittal due to genetic anomaly", Kate was upset. After hearing that Copperhead had escaped from the transport to his holding facility, Kate decided to do something about it. Borrowing Damon Matthews access card, she went down to the evidence locker to find some things to use against Copperhead. Gathering a suit, gauntlets and a staff, Kate went and fought Copperhead... to the death.
The day after her fight, she found that she enjoyed her new lifestyle. Peter drops Ramsey off at Kate's office, for Kate's weekend with her son. Unfortunately, later that day Ramsey finds her staff and pressed a button that released an electromagnetic pulse, that injures him, sending him to the hospital. After the accident, Peter tells Kate that he is going to file for full custody. Kate goes out as Manhunter to deal with her son's accident. Carl Sands (aka the Shadow Thief) finds her on a rooftop and begins to fight her for killing his friend, Copperhead. After narrowly avoiding getting killed by Shadow Thief's attack and falling off a roof, Kate "blackmail's" Dylan Battles into being her "Mr. Fix-it". In the mean time, Kate was involved with the trial of Merlyn, Monocle, Deadshot, which ended in a mistrial due to Deadshot's affiliation with the Suicide Squad Government Program. Dylan then repairs her suit and staff, which was damaged during the fall, and includes a homing device that leads Kate directly to Shadow Thief. After a brief fight with Carl, the JLA arrives to apprehend Shadow Thief for killing Firestorm.
Kate was then assigned to the Trial of Shadow Thief. Kate had a court ordered witness summons delivered to the JLA. During the trial, Calculator sent Shrapnel to make sure Carl did not say anything about the other villains. Kate ended up melting Shrapnel into a heap and disappeared before the L.A Police could arrest her. After the first day of the trial, Shadow Thief was freed by Cheshire, meanwhile in the parking lot of her office, Kate starts her car, which in turn ignites the bomb that was attached and jumps out of the vehicle before it explodes. Kate then goes to find Carl and "protects" him from Cheshire, ending up getting scratched from Cheshire's poisoned fingernails. Kate triggers a magnet in her staff that ripped the nails out of Cheshire's fingers. After getting poisoned by Cheshire, Kate goes to Dylan's house for help, which Dylan uses some anti-venom left over from when he used to work for Kobra.
On the third day of the trial, when Kate enters the courthouse, she bumps into Phobia. Phobia then shows Kate one of her fears, in which she had killed her son, Ramsey. While recovering from the "vision", Kate hears a loud noise coming from the courtroom. Merlyn and Monocle had broken through the wall, to silence Carl. Kate puts on her outfit and rushes into the courtroom and begins to battle Phobia, Merlyn and Monocle. During the fight, Lorraine Reilly (aka Firehawk), who was there to see Shadow Thief get justice for killing her friend Firestorm, helps Kate with the fight. With one of the arrows that Merlyn shoots at Kate, she throws it at Monocle, which goes through his monocle causing it to explode. Merlyn also frees Shadow Thief from his container, which allowed him to get his suit back. While fighting Shadow Thief, Kate hides in the crawl space of the courtroom and fakes out Carl, causing him to think that he had hit her with part of the suit. As Carl puts his head up to look for Manhunter, she fires a blast from the staff, causing Carl to fall to the floor. After Firehawk hit Carl with her power causing him to fall into a coma like state, she told Kate that she wished there were more like her and told her to leave and she would take care of the police.
After her latest trial was called a mis-trial due to Carl's injuries, Kate waited for her next trial. As Kate was walking into her office, she was surprised to find that Cameron Chase was sitting in her chair. Cameron was there to inform her of the Manhunter killings that were going on, killing three of the four previous Manhunters. Cameron takes Kate with her to a L.A.P.D. Precinct where they had placed Mark Shaw (Manhunter III) into custody. While Cameron was speaking to Mark in the interrogation room, Kate went through Mark's duffle bag and found a staff that looked just like hers. Kate went into the room to speak to Mark, when Mark stated that she was the last Manhunter and kidnapped her, blasting a hole into the wall of the building to escape. Mark, dressed as Dumas, took Kate to a building in the Hollywood Hills and began to ask her where Mark Shaw was. Kate began to fight Dumas as an OMAC broke into the building wanting Mark Shaw. During the fight with both Dumas and the OMAC, Kate was tossed out of the building onto Dylan's truck, that just pulled up to the building. Cameron jumped out of the truck and begins to tell Kate about the Government's involvement in all the Manhunters, including Mark Shaw, who they implanted the Dumas personality into. Kate works out a plan, and goes back into the building to put it to use. Kate believes that the OMAC is there to get rid of all Mark Shaw, the last implanted with the technology from the Government. Kate then destroyed on of the staffs on the OMAC then Mark pulled out something from his neck, which made the OMAC leave. Kate then instructed Dylan to help get Mark into the back of his truck and brought him to Dylan's house. After discussing Mark's situation with Cameron, Kate "told" Dylan that Mark was going to be his new housemate. Kate then went to go see Ramsey, so that he knew that she was ok. Peter was also happy to see her all right, and ended up taking Kate into his bedroom.
The following day at Kate's office, Cameron stopped by to inform her that the Director of the D.E.O. Mr. Bones, wanted to speak to her. Kate went to his office and had a meeting with Dir. Bones, in which he offered her a job. He wanted her to become one of his "independent contractor" that only worked and answered to him. Kate thought about the request and answered yes. Kate then headed over to Peter's house to speak to him about what had happened between them the night before. When she got there, she found the house ransacked with a lot of blood on the floor. Kate then used her new position with the D.E.O. and had them come and investigate what had happened. Kate then told Cameron, that she was beginning to think that her father, her real father, had something to do with it. Kate went home to go through some of her old photographs to see if she had any information. Meanwhile, Cameron told Dir. Bones about Kate's situation and he began to do some digging. While Kate was going through a photograph book, she found an envelope addressed to her hidden under a paper glued to the cover. In the envelope she found her birth certificate and a newspaper clipping of her father, Walter Pratt's arrest for killing her mother, Lydia. At roughly the same time, Dir. Bones informs Cameron that Kate's grandfather was the Golden Age Hero, Atom aka Al Pratt.
