Manhunter News - 2/22/08

Marc Andreyko had this to say over at Comicbloc.com:

On Wednesday 2/20/08:

gang-

i write this from my sickbed (as i fight the worst flu i've had since high school---which was back when "watchmen" was a new series), i can tell you this:

Manhunter will be in the June solicits!

and i got some art for #31 today

now, i'm going back to bed...

marc

Marc has also teased about the new artist: the artist is a male and has vowels in his name. You can take a look at who has been guessed here.

Announcement from Heroes Con - 6/16/07

Dan Didio has stated this about the series of Manhunter from a fan's question:

When will we see more Manhunter?

DiDio explained they are getting material stockpiled a little, and that writer/creator Marc Andreyko has a lot of non-comics project going on which is keeping him away from Manhunter for a little bit.

More information when available.

----------------
Manhunter sold roughly 861 less issues in April than in March and went down in sales postion (118 to 128).

That's a rather large loss, but it is still above what it was selling at when the first cancelation was announced. Seeing how Manhunter was not listed in the August Solicitations for DC, I'm hoping that it will be in the September Solicitation (and will have a good push by DC).

Manhunter Lives Again!!!

According to the DC Nation Panel at NYCC (New York Comic-Con) Dan Didio and Bob Wayne stated the following:

Didio stopped the questions to note that they've had a change of heart on something - and turned it over to Wayne, who announced that DC will continue to publish Manhunter.

Marc stated this over at Comicbloc:

yes, gang, it's true. can you believe i held the news in for 2 weeks?!?!?

it is amazing and DC has been great. there will be details forthcoming, but this is gonna be good........

marc

So, with a new trade coming out and a fan-speculated fourth to be announced to cover the Wonder Woman trial and the series renewed yet again, things are looking great for Manhunter fans everywhere!!

*Added*

During today's (2/24/07) DCU panel Dan and Bob stated the following:

Didio and Wayne recapped stuff from yesterday that they are doing a Captain Carrot mini-series and that Manhunter is back from the dead again (with the added confirmation that this is for good…not a 5-6 issue reprieve).

When a fan thanked Didio for bring back Manhunter, he revealed that uncanceling Manhunter was Bob Wayne’s idea. He saw the response and thinks he can make this work with the periodicals and the trades. They both took that to Paul Levitz and got a yes. They plan on getting it some extra attention by canceling it every 5-6 months (with the extra bonus of it driving Andreyko nuts). Trades are selling well. They put her in Birds of Prey to give it more exposure, as well.

I can only hope that they wouldn't be putting Marc through cancelation notices every 5-6 months. After a while that act will get tiring to some (unless fans start sending in the same letter every 5-6 months) and it will start looking more like a gimmick, but it's still good news that the book is back.

More news when it becomes available and please, stop by our forum and tells how much you love this book and how happy this news makes you.

Manhunter News

A new article is up at Comic Book Resources, in which a couple of Professionals and fans (myself included) of Manhunter talk about the book and Marc Andreyko. It's an interesting read.

Also, DC Comics announced the plans of a third Trade Paperback of Manhunter, released in August.

MANHUNTER VOL. 3: ORIGINS TP
Writer: Marc Andreyko
Artists: Javier Pina, Stephen Sadowski, Rags Morales, Sean Phillips, Shawn Martinbrough and Diego Olmos
Collects MANHUNTER #15-23
$17.99 US, 224 pages

Also:

BIRDS OF PREY: BLOOD AND CIRCUITS TP
Writers: Gail Simone and Tony Bedard
Artists: James Raiz, Paulo Siqueira and others
Collects BIRDS OF PREY #96-103
$17.99 US, 208 pages

With the Manhunter TPB, it's going to cut off an issue before the end of an arc, which seems strange. Some believe that a fourth trade will happen since issues 26-30 involve elements with Wonder Woman and the Amazons Attack mini. So, I believe that issue 24 will go into the Origins trade and the issue 25 will go into the "fourth" trade.
